Spox: Russia to join top 5 digital states by 2035 thanks to sovereignty

SOCHI, Dec 5 (PRIME) -- Russia has a good chance to rise to one of the top five digital states by 2035 from the 30–50th place now, Dmitry Peskov, special presidential representative on digital and technological development, said on Thursday.

“Because neither Japan nor China has ambitions to build technological sovereignty with a cross-cutting protocol, antivirus and operating systems. If everything is done correctly, we can ensure it within several years,” the official said.

The country created cross-cutting technologies in the last three years that became the basis for resource planning and helps it to outstrip global leaders in some directions, like quantum technologies, Peskov said.

At present, the top technology countries are the U.S., China and Europe.

“The fourth and fifth places are Japan, South Korea and Russia. For example, Israel could appear, but if we take Europe, we are certainly good enough for the fifth place,” the official said.

“In the big rating, we are in the end of the 30th position, in the 40–50th. It’s good for a start, because the place is assigned not by achievements, but methodologies of calculation.”
